What are Damon Braces?
Damon braces are a “self-ligating” bracket system that is prescribed just for you. Damon braces use the latest technology utilizing light forces to move your teeth with less pressure. Making the process much more comfortable. In addition, Damon braces are more efficient at moving teeth, which means fewer visits to our office and less time until you have the beautiful smile you desire.
What are the steps to a great smile?
A beautiful, healthy smile is just around the corner if you follow a few simple rules.
- You must follow Dr Lorentz’s instructions.
- Brush and floss thoroughly and regularly
- Avoid hard sticky and chewy foods
- Faithfully wear your elastics
- Keep your appointments
How much pain will there be?
We wont lie, braces aren’t the most comfortable thing in the world, but Damon Braces are more comfortable than traditional brackets. That said, you may feel pressure and tenderness for a few days after the braces are put on. Some find that a non-prescription pain medication like advil or tylenol may be taken if needed. Eating softer foods and avoiding hard things during the first week will help ( good excuse to avoid broccoli:).
If the brackets or wires are rubbing the inside of your cheeks or lips, place orthodontic wax on the bracket or wire. You can also use warm salt water or a topical antiseptic to relieve some pain. (We think ice cream or frozen yogurt helps just as much)
Taking care of your braces
Brushing and flossing may take more time than before, and you’ll want to brush after every meal and snack, that way you can avoid embarrassing things in your teeth. You’ll want to floss daily using the floss threader that Dr Lorentz will give you, and use a fluoride rinse once a day. Make sure you really check your teeth and gums after each brushing so that your teeth are sparkling!
